      Puppet is a configuration management solution that may be used to manage infrastructure on physical or virtual devices. It is an open-source software configuration management tool written in Ruby that aids in the management of complicated infrastructure on the fly.       • Puppet supports Idempotency which makes it unique. Similar to Chef, in Puppet, one can safely run the same set of configurations multiple times on the same machine. In this flow, Puppet checks for the current status of the target machine and will only make changes when there is any specific change in the configuration.

        • Cross-platform:

      • In Puppet, with the help of Resource Abstraction Layer (RAL) which uses Puppet resources, one can target the specified configuration of the system without worrying about the implementation details and how the configures.
      • The Puppet master's initial task in Puppet is to gather information about the target system. It obtains all machine-level configuration details by utilizing the factor that is available on all Puppet nodes (equivalent to Ohai in Chef). These facts are gathered and returned to the Puppet master.
      • The puppet master then checks the received configuration to the defined configuration information, and using the defined configuration, it builds a catalog and transmits it to the Puppet agents that are targeted.
      • The Puppet agent then uses those configurations to bring the system up to speed.
