But, does all of those features really needed? Mostly everyone would say they need all of those features. It is however, when for each feature comes with financial cost that should be paid then the story would be different.

How long would it take to learn Oracle Apps Technical?

Originally Answered: In how much time can we learn Oracle from scratch? Hi, it depends what you are targeting to learn. If it's SQL and PL/Sql, then it will take 3 hours of study for 2–3 months and you will be good to go.

If you already do programming, it’s a little harder, as you will need to learn both the basics and “thinking in SQL”. I found as a hard core C++ programmer, some parts of SQL for me, even after 17 years, are “read only”. I’m really good at analyzing SQL, not as much necessarily as writing it, but that’s because to program Oracle EBusiness Suite you need to know not just the tables, but the setups.

Oracle Apps Technical Environments

As with any software development lifecycle, Oracle strongly recommends that you have different environments for development, test / QA, and production. As a best practice, install "Runtime Only" Application Express within your test and production environments. This removes the Application Builder and SQL Workshop components from your test and production environments and forces developers to make all changes directly in your development environment. Developers should check all applications, and associated files, into a source control system, and have Database Administrators (DBAs) check-out and run scripts directly from source control into test and production.
Oracle Apps are highly popular with large companies. Experience with them will make you very hire able. This is an opportunity to build upon your developer skills and make yourself marketable as a consultant.

Functional :

You need to be a professional with the domain knowledge to be a functional expert. If you look at the companies, mostly the functional consultants will have the respective degrees. For eg. functional folks for the finance modules (payables, receivables, assets, general ledger etc.) will be either CAs or MBAs.
Almost same applies to the all the other modules. This is what I've seen all along. In this role, you're expected to know more about the business and the EBS suite product and know how efficiently you can use / implement the EBS suite in accordance to the needs of the business.

Techno-functional :

You can perform this role very well. You should be a strong player technically with the additional domain expertise. You should have the development experience using the Oracle Developer suite (forms, reports etc.) and knows the EBS data model and architecture (APPS schema, tables, triggers, packages etc.) and should know how to write custom API extension to suite the company's requirements. Generally you'll start as a developer and over the period of time, you'll acquire the domain knowledge and grow to the level of a team lead, project manager etc.

Technical :

This is pure technical role. You may get the domain expertise, but that's purely based on your own interest and it's not required to perform the day-to-day job. In this role, you'll mostly be the apps DBA or a sysadmin.
In functional / techno-functional role, growth is little faster and visibility is a little more compared to the technical role.

Roles and Responsibilities

Individuals who access the Oracle Application Express environment can have different roles, responsibilities and rights.

There are four major roles associated with Application Express:

Instance Administrator - Responsible for instance configuration and monitoring, including workspace provisioning, feature configuration, security, and instance settings.
Workspace Administrator - Responsible for requesting, monitoring, and maintaining developers within a workspace. Generally also have developer responsibilities.
Developer - Develop applications and required database objects, if objects not already available.
End User - Defined users for applications that utilize Application Express User authentication scheme.

In general you only need to define a few instance administrators to work with database administrators and system architects to correctly configure and manage the Oracle Application Express environment. For each workspace there must be at least one workspace administrator, and any number of developers. Workspace administrators are responsible for maintaining the developer credentials. Defining end users within the Application Builder is only required if applications are using the Application Express User authentication scheme. If the applications are public, requiring no authentication, or other authentication schemes such as SSO, LDAP, custom, etc. are utilized by the applications then you will not need to define end users.

Database Jobs

When Oracle Application Express is installed, four database jobs are created. In order for Application Express to operate correctly, these jobs must run regularly.

The installed database jobs include:

ORACLE_APEX_DAILY_MAINTENANCE - Runs at 0100 system time daily; Archives activity logs, purges workspaces and deletes expired files.

ORACLE_APEX_PURGE_SESSIONS - Runs hourly; Deletes session information from APEX tables for sessions older than 12 hours.

ORACLE_APEX_MAIL_QUEUE - Runs every 5 minutes; Sends messages in the the e-mail queue.

ORACLE_APEX_WS_NOTIFICATIONS - Runs every 30 minutes; Sends Websheet notifications.
