      Selenium is good for future scope compare to QTP. These both tools are awesome. But, In Selenium suite we have the IDE Tool, Webdriver, RC & Grid. As a beginner want to learn the concepts of the any one programming language like as, QTP, Javascript, C#..etc.., Easy to learn the selenium compare to QTP. Coming to QTP you must learn the "How to use the tool" and VB Scripting Language which is most important to implement/write the test scripts on the QTP Tool.

      • Selenium
      • Which is supported only Web Based applications.
      • No feature such as Object Repository/Recovery Scenario
      • No IDE, so the script development won't be as fast as QTP.
      • Cannot access controls within the browser.
      • No default test report generation.
      • For parameterization, users has to rely on the programming language.
      • QTP
      • Can test both web and desktop applications.
      • QTP has built-in object repositories and recovery scenarios.
      • More intuitive IDE; automation can be achieved faster.
      • Can access controls within the browser such as favorites bar, backward, and forward buttons.
      • Default test result generation within the tool.
      • Parameterization is built-in and easy to implement.

      Though programming/scripting knowledge is required for both of them, UFT comes handy with some features where beginner can easily learn. But that knowledge is not enough for making Automation Successful.They are giving it for free with UFT license

      Every tool or technology you want to use has their own sets of advantages​ and disadvantages. QTP currently known as UFT can automate both desktop and web-based applications whereas some open source technologies like Selenium WebDriver can automate only web-based applications. So, it all zeroes down to the requirements of a project. But now since more and more web-based applications are in demand in the IT industry thanks to cloud and all, I firmly believe that you should start learning Selenium WebDriver. For that you have to transform yourself from a scripter to programmer. Mind you, QTP only supports VBScript which does not require much coding knowledge and does not even have the concept of object oriented programming. Selenium WebDriver programs can be written using Java, C#, PHP, Ruby and so on. You just have to select the language of your choice and learn it enough to implement that for writing automation test scripts using Selenium WebDriver. So, all the best and have a great career ahead. Selenium is in heavy demand in the market and so as UFT. Demand may decrease in the future but the tool will stay. Also have a brief look on another free (not open source) tool called Katalon Studio and thank me later. But, I recommend to first learn Selenium WebDriver. Jai Hind.

The course is made up of theoretical classes that teach the basics of each module followed by high-intensity practical sessions reflecting the current challenges and needs of the industry that will demand the students’ time and commitment.

      QTP is a paid tool. License cost is very high, but selenium is a totally free and open-source.Since, selenium is open source, plug-ins are also available free of cost. QTP can test client-server, windows and web-based applications, but selenium is only for testing web-based applications.

      In QTP, data-driven testing is easier as it has built-in global and local tables whereas in Selenium we need to rely on programming language capabilities. In Selenium, we can execute multiple tests in parallel whereas in QTP we can execute only one test at a time.

      What is the difference between UFT and QTP?

      HP Unified Functional Testing is latest version of QTP. QTP Supports GUI Testing, but UFT Supports GUI and API Testing

      QTP make Working so Easy

      • The major distinguishing factor of QTP is its User Interface functionality. QTP comes with a so-calledIntegrated Development Environment (IDE) which provides User Interface to allow generating scripts easily. QTP IDE allows developing complex automation scripts by using an icon-based style. This option is known as Record and Playback and is supported by default in QTP. This feature also allows non-technical users to develop scripts.
      • It allows supplying multiple sets of data to the application using various data tables and external sources.
      • It allows user interface viewing results in the Result Viewer option. These all functionalities make working with QTP very easy.

      What can you do with QTP

      • It allows the generation of scripts without writing them line by line.. The feature record and playback makes it very easy. When tester launches QTP and performs some operations, QTP generates lines of code for each step performed by tester. Now, when tester wants to perform the same steps as done previously, he just uses the playback feature. The script performs the same steps as required.
      • Although It is mainly used for UI based test case automation, it can also be used to automate some Non-UI based test cases such as database testing, file system operations or web service testing.

      Working with QTP

      • QTP allows the performing of testing by the User Interface way. It works by the way; it identifies the objects on the screen and related operations such as mouse click or keyboard input. Stores them in memory and generates script. For the user i.e. Tester has to only perform manual testing processonce and record this in QTP.
      • Exception handling is also supported by QTP so that the test will continue to run in unexpected failure scenarios. QTP works only on the Windows environmentand is known as UFT in the market today.
