Our world is full of data and is dependent on data as well. Every day, every minute, tons of data where being generated from various sources. In today’s world, each company needs to rely on DBA managers and data scientists who can make proper use of data to drive the company’s growth.

However, if you are thinking of learning Oracle applications, then it is a different ball game. Those are extremely specific on corresponding domains like Human Resources, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing etc…….

Top reasons to consider a career in Oracle DBA?

Oracle is a worldwide leader and Oracle database is most popular globally. Thus, jobs are available more than other RDBMS DBA jobs. Most of the companies are using Oracle database on various platforms. Means chances of Oracle DBA jobs are more at any type of industry like telecom, finance, banking, etc. This is might be one of the valid reason for choosing Oracle DBA career.

      The Future Of Oracle DBA

      • The data is the most important asset for any organization and hence this makes the job of DBA quite demanding. A specialized training in Oracle DBA, a passion for problem solving, attention to detail, organizational & good communication skills will certainly make anyone quite successful in this domain.
      • The internet and e-commerce is expanding rapidly and require handling of large database, hence there is a high scope and more career options for database administrations. Cyber security adds another scope to this position as it is one of the major and important field as maintaining and organizing data is worthless if it’s not secured properly. Indeed the future prospects of DBA is great as the usage of database in IT and Non IT sector is increasing day by day and hence there is a lot of scope & opportunities in this field.
      • The career opportunities will arise from online retail stores, shopping cart website, computer system designs, Internet Service providers, search portals, and data processing warehouses which maintain inventory for their day to day operations. Beside a range of organization may hire you like School, college or university, Insurance Companies, Wholesaler & Banks. You may also work for a consulting firm or can start as a consultant after having enough experience.
      • There are lots more opportunities for experienced Database administrators than the novice. Since they will be handling crucial data it is advisable to start with assisting managers, have some IT experience and get a hang on how the industry works. To move to higher positions it is important to gain some knowledge about the field, latest technology and solutions to have an edge over others.

      What is a Database Administrator?

Database administrators – DBAs, for short – set up databases according to a company's needs and make sure they operate efficiently. They will also fine-tune, upgrade and test modifications to the databases as needed.

How Much Does a Database Administrator Make?

Database Administrators made a median salary of $90,070 in 2018. The best-paid 25 percent made $116,060 that year, while the lowest-paid 25 percent made $66,200.

      The Future

What you need to know about developing your career Cloud, the inevitable next step in the DBA DNA evolution!

      • The constant evolution of IT has, among other things, affected the role of a DBA. Today the DBA is not merely a Database Administrator anymore but is morphing more into the Database Architect role.
      • If you want to become a successful DBA (Database Architect) and be more competitive in the market, you should have a different skill set than was normally required in the past. Now a day, you need to have a wide range of understanding in architectural design, Cloud, network, storage, licensing, versioning, automation, and much more - the more knowledge you have, the better opportunities you will find.
      • We know without doubt that our future involves automation and Cloud technologies, so why fight it? Why continue losing our time and energy against it?

      New Technologies

Advances in the capabilities and popularity of “fully-managed” database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offerings, like Azure SQL Database, tempt companies to migrate their relational databases from being hosted on-premise, to a cloud-based solution.  As this happens, a number of the database maintenance tasks that would have traditionally been carried out by a DBA, can now be handled automatically (to varying extents) by the managed instance.  These can include such fundamental DBA tasks as backups, high-availability, performance tuning and deciding whether indexes should be added or removed.

      New Methodologies

      • As well as managed databases, new business practices have also had an impact upon tasks that historically formed part of the DBA workload.
      • The DevOps methodology brings developers together with operations staff, to collaborate on the whole application life cycle, through design, development, review, release and production support.  This is an alternative to the traditional “sysadmin” model of developers and operations teams being “siloed” as separate entities (with the DBA firmly ensconced on the Ops side). Developers would write code that was then “thrown over the wall” for the Ops side to support.
      • New applications would now be developed, maintained and monitored by product-aligned engineering teams.  Their responsibility would include supporting the database layer of the application, which would have previously been looked after by my DBA team.

What this means for the DBA

So, with the rise of managed DBaaS offerings and DevOps / SRE teams taking on database management themselves, it might be reasonable to think that there would be a reduction in the need for dedicated Database Administrators in the industry.  This theory seems to backed up by looking at the number of DBA role vacancies in recent years. The graph below shows the total number (permanent + contract) of vacancies in the UK, recorded by IT Jobs Watch in the six months to January of each year, with Database Administrator opportunities falling substantially since 2017.
