Yes its good to start your career with PL/SQL, you can work as Developer. You need to learn SQL, PLSQL, FORMS, REPORTS
The only thing is, it has a monotonous work down the line in years. You might feel changing or upgrading your skills. Or else you will be working as Developer or Senior Developer or may be manager but only in PLSQL domain. To get a job in this, sometimes being Certified is also important e.g. OCA & OCP which might cost your nothing less than a lac.
- We can't say it has no future yes but when you will be switching the company then if you ETL than its a plus point. You can get better hike.
- Now projects are migrating from oracle to big data.
- Recently I have switched and they ask me that I have to work on big data.
- So I would suggest if you get a chance to learn ETL or big data than grab it otherwise pl/ sql still have future . There are projects that are running in pl/sql also.
- Do below steps in order to get a job as a PL/SQL developer.
- First, understand what is DBMS.
- Install any of the database it could be Oracle, MySQL or Sybase.
- Now, go in order. Topic wise ddl, dml, dcl etc.,
- Now run those commands in the installed DBMS software. I would say practice writing comment's for each line of code. You'll appreciate yourself for writing comments after few years.
- Once you have done with minimal practice, try something complicated queries from internet. Please note all these are from SQL point of view.
- After few days of SQL practice and becoming confident enough, get into PL/SQL.
- Ideally, if you practice SQL perfectly it shouldn't take for you more than 15 days to master in PL/SQL.
- SQL is also good for personal development. If you just want to learn a new skill, getting started with SQL is easy and relatively inexpensive. You may even decide that you like working with SQL enough to become an administrator or developer in the future. Knowing SQL is a huge plus for almost any job.
We are happy and proud to say that we have strong relationship with over 700+ small, mid-sized and MNCs. Many of these companies have openings for Oracle SQL And PLSQL. Moreover, we have a very active placement cell that provides 100% placement assistance to our students. The cell also contributes by training students in mock interviews and discussions even after the course completion.
Compilation process includes syntax check, bind and p-code generation processes.
Syntax checking checks the PL SQL codes for compilation errors. When all errors are corrected, a storage address is assigned to the variables that hold data. It is called Binding. P-code is a list of instructions for the PL SQL engine. P-code is stored in the database for named blocks and is used the next time it is executed.
- The Prerequisite of Oracle SQL And PLSQL HRMS are:
- Basic knowledge of payroll process and oracle databases.
- Need to be know about an oracle apps with HRMS.
- Known about the Recruitment
- Should have knowledge to eliminates the data redundancy
Oracle is very strong in documenting the functionality of all its applications. Many such documents are available on the internet. Pick the ERP of your interest like Fusion, PeopleSoft, EBS and look for documentation. This will give you an idea of the functionality.
The Best way to learn Oracle Apps to join ACTE institute, where you can learn and get project experience. one of my friend recently joined a institute where he is getting all the benefits to learn Oracle.
Our course ware is designed to give a hands-on approach to the students in Oracle SQL And PLSQL. The course is made up of theoretical classes that teach the basics of each module followed by high-intensity practical sessions reflecting the current challenges and needs of the industry that will demand the students’ time and commitment.
Yes. It has a lot to teach you about relational databases even if you don't write SQL directly in your regular work. It's the most commonly used declarative programming language.
- SQL is quite simple and it is not difficult to code.
- Make some notes when you code/read something.
- You will be successful in learning only when you run the code in your system rather than just looking at the code in the text book or in any website.
- Decide, which one to learn. Oracle/DB2/MySql/SQL Server. They vary in syntax, so stick to one and learn that completely.
- Use TOAD as GUI.
- If you do two hours of theory and two hours of practicals strictly, 30 days for SQL is more than enough.
- If you follow point 6 correctly, then PL/SQL is of no issue. Simply speaking, PL/SQL is advanced version of SQL.
- PL/SQL will take 20 days.
Yes, Oracle is a popular database for enterprise applications and PL/SQL is a nice skill to have to interact with any relational databases like Oracle, MariaDB, MySQL, Percona, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and many more.
Absolutely , if you are passionate about Database and want to build your career in this platform.
You need to be aware of the fundamental of RDBMS as well and then master the SQL, PLSQL and oracle stuffs.
Careers in PL/SQL
In this era of ever-evolving data, it becomes necessary to use the right set of query languages to process the data in a meaningful way. PL/SQL known as Programming Languages in Structured Query Language is an advanced language which consists of the procedural features of SQL. It was developed by Oracle in the early 90s to enhance the capabilities of SQL. This multi-block structured language can work like any other programming languages and provides a rich set of features like iterative statements, conditional statements, arrays, strings, collections, triggers, functions, procedures, etc. SQL, on the other hand, is used to perform operations on records such as inserting, updating, creating, deleting records, modifying and dropping tables, etc.
Education Required to build Careers in PL/SQL
There is no prerequisite as such for learning this language. It is generally recommended for people who have a basic background of databases, source codes, some level of basic programming languages, text editor, program execution, etc. Even if you are new to all the above-mentioned technologies you would not find a very hard time while learning this language. It is recommended though, that you have a background before hopping into this course.
Career Path in PL/SQL
Once you choose to opt your careers in PL/SQL, your job as a developer will be to write SQL based queries so that the performance of the database can be improved significantly. You will also be required to analyse the data results and providing solutions, suggestions to end customers and also related to document creation.
You will be expected to have:
- An in-depth knowledge of Oracle database, its tools, and utilities.
- A good understanding of programming constructs, procedures, packages, triggers and query writing.
- A sound knowledge of software development life cycle and should be able to follow standard processes such as code review, creating/executing unit level test cases.
- Should be able to design and implement ETL solutions and processes.
- Should be able to create data models, design and implementation.
- Should be able to performance tune the SQL queries.
- With managing, client-side developer queries you can also start managing SQL server based queries. So, your career path can transform into providing cloud solutions and support.
Over a course of time, you can also see yourself getting transformed into a newer set of technology as working over programming languages would not be a challenge.
You can see your careers in PL/SQL getting transformed into solution level and data level architects apart from just DBA (database architect) as you will be well aware of the ground level functioning of a functionality or a piece of code.
If you feel like taking a break from the programming languages and coding you can also consider switching your domain into an analyst role where the outputs produced are worked upon and future business insights can be generated using analytical tools.
When you work with PL/SQL which is an oracle’s technology you allow yourself to work on every domain that the giant Oracle has to offer.
You may also end up working as a full stack developer as your roles and responsibilities can range from managing the backend to managing the front end of the application.
If you find yourself doing well in UNIX, you can also see your graph getting transitioned into the security domain or as tech operation analyst.
You can also see yourself getting transitioned into many NoSQL databases’ developer role as the increase in big data technologies have demanded the use of NoSQL databases more than traditional RDBMS.
Job positions
The primary role one can expect by opting PL/SQL is the developer role.
Other positions to consider are:
- Analyst role
- Unix Developer/Administrator
- DBA
- PL/SQL performance optimization developer
- Pro*c developer
- SQL developer
- PL/SQL administrator
- ETL developer
- Informatica Developer
- DB2 professional
Application areas
Here is some field of application which covers:
Medical field:
One of the major application areas where PL/SQL has benefited is in the field of medicines. Let us understand this with the help of an example. Let us say, all the health-related institutions want to extract the data of all the patients who are going through a particular disease and whether they are taking appropriate care and precautions to alleviate the disease or if they could be allowed to consume a particular food. In that case, all that institution needs to do is create a PL/SQL construct and apply the query on the database with the matching parameters and it will obtain the result of all those patients who fall in that category. This would be a very tough task to do with simple SQL statements but with advanced programming languages technique, this could be made possible.
Banking institutions:
Let us say, the bank wants to set an automatic trigger for all the customers who have maintained less than a fixed sum of money in their savings bank account with the message, “Your account has an amount which is less than the standard minimum limit. Please credit to avoid minimum balance failure penalties”. This can be made possible with the help of triggers in PL/SQL which is not the case with SQL as SQL does not provide complex processing capabilities like the way PL/SQL do.
Likewise, there are thousands of use cases where PL/SQL can be used efficiently especially in cases where IF/THEN/ELSE type of a scenario occurs. You can also do complex MATH operation which is not possible to do in simple DDL and DML level SQL statements.
